This week over at the Play Date Cafe, the challenge is to make a black and white project with a hint of yellow. Now, if I was to do something as anal as rank colours in order of appeal, yellow would be right at the bottom. I'm not sure why that is. It's a warm colour, the colour of sunshine. It's a fresh colour, it evokes Spring and daffodils. In theory, it should be glowing near the top of my list.
Trouble is, whenever I've incorporated it into a craft project or home decor, I dislike it. I think of sickness, jaundice, dying leaves, cold custard, cowardice, weakness. I have more negative associations than positive. It improves when it moves along the spectrum and becomes a yellow-orange. It starts to look a lot richer, more golden and honeyed.
That aside, I actually like it on this card. I can't think of another colour working as well as this does. Again, as I've said before, that's the joy of playing with colour challenge blogs. Plus it's a boon to be given colours that are far removed from Christmas. So what have I done? Made another card suitable for Valentine's Day. Am I getting soppy in my old age? Hard to believe. As the seventies pop song goes...they call me mellow yellow (see what I did there? lol )

Lol! Your thoughts on yellow made me laugh. Not one of my favourite colours either, but love your card. X
Très élégante.
J'aime ces cartes .
Fab card! The yellow makes you think of sunshine, which ties in nicely with the embossing folder you've used. Love the button flower too! x
I'm with ya on yellow; I like the warmer, deeper shades better too. So cool how you created that array pattern in the background. Everything came together perfectly!
I really like your card, the embossing works very well and the hint of yellow looks great. I had the same initial reaction as you on seeing the challenge wass to use yellow but agree, it is actually very pleasing.
oo I like this one Paul. (even if it is not AF)
Paul, I just LOVE the way you describe things, it always makes me smile :) Your description of what yellow reminds you of is so funny.
I LOVE what you've done here, it's really fab, especially the button flower, what a great idea! Thanks for playing along with us in the PDCC this week!
S.T.U.N.N.I.N.G! This really rocks! :) LOVE that button flower you created and I agree, yellow is the perfect pop!
That flower made from buttons is GENIUS! FAB card! And your take on yellow makes me dislike yellow even more than I already do (however the Lemon Tart PTI color is actually the best yellow I've ever worked with.)
Great card again - I see you have used that embossing folder that I like (and haven't taken from the packaging yet).
Loved reading what you wrote about the colour yellow - funny thing is most crafters I know feel the same about the colour - it is not used that often if you look around.
LOL...love your description of yellow...too funny! That button flower is gorgeous! Truly a stunning card!!!
Superb card, love the ribbed effect on the background.
I have to say, Yellow is probably top of the list for me, and I really want a canary yellow van next time lol
I already told you I'd be one of your valentines! So having more than one card is no problem : )
Beautiful! So glad you pulled out the yellow and stayed with us ; )
Merry Christmas to you and Nick xx
Very stylish Paul ..... yellow is one of those strange colours isnt? But I do love it on your card.
