The Further Joys of Cartography

I'm back again briefly. After hitting the publish button on the last post, I went downstairs to have a spot of lunch, when another idea came into my head. One that was a bit more true to the design of Frank's Collection whilst still CAS.

So here it is...

I think this card is a better merging of our styles :)

The Joys of Cartography

Before I went away, I took delivery of a very special pad of Prima paper, The Cartographer Collection. It's special for me as it was designed by my lovely friend Frank Garcia, who is one of the sweetest guys I've been lucky enough to know. Not only that, he is uber talented and has an incredibly creative style. If you've never seen his work, stop reading right now and hop over to his blog to drool over his dimensional art pages.

The papers are too delicious to cut into, all subtle blacks, greys, browns and creams - heaven -  but I wanted to see if I could use his vintage style in a more contemporary form. Blend his arty designs with my bold, graphic style.

I've made a couple of cards so far and I'm itching to have a go making a few more when time allows

As you can see, it's not as clean as I've been of recent and certainly not as arty as Frank. I'm hoping there's a hybrid feel in there. I'm tentatively feeling my way through creating something that incorporates the best of both our worlds.

And the only way to do that, is to keep making more :)

Say it with Zip Pulls

I was doodling away in my sketch book whilst a passenger in a car, going off to see some stunning sculptures at Chatsworth house. I was listening to the radio and my mind was wandering when I had this idea of making a card solely of Prima's Zip Pull embellishments.

I could see exactly how I wanted to piece it together, even down to the hand drawn border. It's not often I have a clear idea beforehand. Anyway, this is what I made once I was back home.

I know it's a bit excessive to use up nearly a whole pack of zip pulls on one card. But I wanted it to look like a modern art piece. Something you'd find in an art gallery or a trendy designer establishment.

It's clean, graphic, slightly quirky and just the style I love.

As for the trip to Chatsworth. If you're in the area and love your sculptures, do check it out. It's on until the end of October so there's still plenty of time. Here's just a small peek at what we saw

If you've seen Dream up near St Helen's you may recognise the artist behind this very similar piece.

And you can't see the whole sculpture in this photo but it's styled high as a tornado made from steel rings. I think it's called Chaos.

And finally, me posing in front of a piece simply called Lens.

Hope you had an enjoyable weekend filled with creative endeavours too. Thanks for popping by.
