Telling Objects: Day 27

Last of the technology objects today. You know that I posted I was a Mac kinda guy before. Well, I am in all but one respect. My choice of mobile phone...

...my Nokia brick. It's a hardy beast that I've had for a fair few years now. It still works extremely well and doesn't have a problem getting a signal, unless I truly am out in the sticks somewhere.

Nowadays, I use it (albeit still rarely by most people's standards) to send and receive text messages. In fact I can't recall the last time I actually spoke to someone on the other end. I'm loathe to switch it on and see it more as a tool for sending messages rather than receiving. I have it on me purely for emergencies, say if my car breaks down & I need to call the AA.

And as I sit on a bench, looking at all the people sat on the train in front of me, every single one with head bowed, squinting at small boxes, and I walk down the street, witnessing the same, I feel like I've woken up to discover the world has turned into zombies. Their choice of course. But I'm a luddite when it comes to phones. When I leave the house, I can't be contacted. I'm not there for anyone and everyone 24 hours a day. I'm a bit like my choice of phone. A dinosaur. But then, the alternative is to become like the teenagers of yesteryear who wouldn't hang up the phone and could talk nonsense for hours on end. Been there, done that. Not going back :)

Until tomorrow

Ah, I so agree, lol. Only reason I have the one I have is because I needed the Sat Nav on it at the time but now it's so sluggish it's not worth it. I do enjoy the games on it, though when I'm on the train/bus or a passenger in a car - and even when watching TV, he, he. I have to be doing something! Still think it's bad manners to talk to people on the phone when on trains/buses/in shops (unless in emergencies) so am as much a dinosaur as you are :-)

Nice posting about another important object in your life - even if it's not as important to you as other people's is to theirs. So relieved to find I am not the only person who doesn't have a phone that takes photos and who only ever uses it to send/receive texts. Shall we start a society? Can I come and join you in Dinosaurland? xx

I had a similar phone, actually my first cell phone, but it pooped out years ago. I can't believe you are still getting life out of yours, but as you say you don't talk on it much, so mine would probably work just fine as a texting box. Though the thought of going back to texting on a 10 key pad sounds horrific. LOL

I'm a luddite too. My phone is for emergencies like you and doesn't have a magic screen for photos, in fact I don't know much about it and often cut people off because I don't know which button to press.
Hugs, Neet (dumb blonde) xx
