Inspired Patterns - Day Three

Only three days in and I've slipped already. Not the best pattern I've created and not really at all inspired. Okay, I'm not putting myself down here. It's just that I know this is more a C- than it is an A+.

I got caught up in the process and didn't realise, until I'd spent an hour on it, that I hadn't really created what I wanted for this challenge. That is the nature of these schemes. I've done a few 30 Day Projects now, to know that somedays it doesn't go to plan and others are downright c*@p.

Don't believe me? Well, I'll warn you now. Today I made a pattern using butterflies. How much more uninspired can an idea be? Or really, are there not enough butterfly patterns around. And I haven't even had the grace to do something inspired with the butterfly. I've not turned it on it's head and looked at it in a new way. Nope. Just a bog standard everyday butterfly.

But it did start out with all good intentions.

I thought I'd begin by heading over to Pinterest and using a photo which caught my eye. So I logged on and saw this...

and thought, hey I bet I can do something with that. Like this...

Only then did it occur to me that I hadn't been thinking about copyright issues. Though I was sure I'd be okay, I wasn't going to chance it. At no point was I thinking, let's choose a better idea. I was thinking, where can I find a safer butterfly image.

The answer is here, The Biodiversity Heritage Library where I found this...

Which became this...

Which I turned into this...

and yes it makes me cringe. My graphic-design-educated readers will spot all the could do better areas but I'm not spelling them out here. Don't get me wrong. I don't think it's bad. But it needs more work on it.

And it's not very inspired. Or original. So I give it a C-.

However, I did make a card with it...

And I have come away having learnt a bit more about what I want from myself with this challenge. As usual, you can think a project out in as much detail beforehand but it's only when you take action, do you come across all the pitfalls and actually learn about what works and what doesn't.

Now I'm crossing fingers that my next design goes a little better lol

Thanks for taking the time to drop by

Morning Paul, I know you are disappointed, but I see a lovely butterfly background and a nice CAS card. Anyone would be happy to receive this card, they wouldn't be turning their noses up at it. But, I know we always look to improve ourself, by all means be self critical, but don't be too hard on yourself! Take care.

I, too, think you are being too hard on yourself, Paul. You ended up with a very beautiful card, so you did create a lovely piece of art! You did not fail, my friend, you just did not end up where you thought you would be...that's all! Try again, then again! Hugs, Kay

Hilariously honest Paul! I think the end result is a lot better than you think. Again, I love reading your thought process.
