Pale Tags & Twine Flowers

I've definitely found myself in the mood for producing tags recently. Their creation just feels more like play. Something to easily try out tips and techniques. In my head run all these ideas of colour schemes, materials and embellishments. And although I'm working towards it, I haven't quite gotten used to using an art journal for them. My Moleskine holds notes, thoughts & rough doodles & sketches but I haven't reached the step of making an actual 'page'. So, in the meantime, tags fill that gap.

I'm drawn to a paler palette at the moment, especially the inclusion of white. And it goes so well with natural materials. Like here, I've used linen, twine & a wooden decoration. Plus I've incorporated something called 'paper string' to tie onto the tag.

The flower was made with a circular flower loom tool, which I bought last year, tried out once, filed away and promptly forgot about. However, it came to mind the other day, so I blew the dust of it and made a twine accessory. To finish it off, I lightly daubed white paint onto it with my finger and added a grey button to the centre.

The background texture was an experiment to see the effect of adding white paint using a dry brush technique, i.e. loading up a brush with paint, wiping the excess off onto a palette, before lightly dragging over the manilla tag.

And the great thing about this tag, is that it's looking more like the visual image I hold in my head. Therefore I might try playing around with making a few more. There are a handful of alternative combinations I'm already itching to try out. And you never know, some colour may even find itself included at some point.

Have a wonderfully creative weekend

p.s. may I ask from where the loom was procured?!!

Hi Paul, this is lovely. I like how the white brings all the natural colours and elements together. I've a brand new flower loom lurking around; think I'll be dusting it off soon and having a play! Thanks for sharing.

I got mine from a market stall in France. However I have also seen them all over the UK. Fred Aldous in Manchester sells them as does my local craft shop CJ Cardcraft. The link I gave on my blog is Amazon UK. So plenty of places. Try your local knitting/haberdashery shop. They're quite commonplace these days :) Good luck with your hunt. Px

Ooh, I really love natural things like twine, cork, etc - this colour palette is so delicate and beautiful but not easy to use - you've done a great job, Paul x
