As Good As You Dare Be Bad

Ahh, the trouble I had with this page. It looks like the others I've recently done and there's a reason for that. Also, I know I said in my last post that I wasn't going to continue with double page spreads, but when I opened my journal, I discovered I was up to the centre. It just didn't feel right to split it up. So for this alone, it's a two-pager again.

The problem, however, was in putting down the background colour. I have invested in a rainbow of colourful acrylic inks but I hadn't noticed that one of the bottles I selected had shimmering mica in it. I only discovered this once I had brushed a wash of it onto the white page. I then hoped that coating with another ink over the top would hide this horrible effect but no. So I coated in absorbant ground and tried again. Still no joy. In the end, I gave in and coated the pages in two thick layers of acrylic paint.

The trouble with acrylic paint is that you are limited in the materials you can use over it. So it was back to what I know best; collage & a sharpie pen.  I have several ideas I want to try out but it needs a more versatile surface. For now, I resigned myself to the acrylic surface and had a play anyway.

Hence why it is another quirky collage with some type and doodling.

I've since exchanged the offending ink for it's non-shimmering cousin, so I'll hope to have another go over the weekend.

Until then

I think you will find fun with your sparkling acrylic... I have a few tubes too and they are very handy for journaling ..give them a chance!

Great journal you are creating there, love the alice cooper style eye make up ;)
Have you tried Stayzon?I found it works quite well on acrylic I have stamped a few times that way and have been pleased with the results.

You've made a good job of covering up the offending ink! A quick coat of gesso would also let you use watercolours on top if you ever wanted to try it. Perfect sentiment for you, by the way :).

Ah, but it looks so full of fun! Love it. Pity about the ink but there is a place for shimmer... did you try gesso? I'd have saved it but then again, I'm a terrible hoarder x
