Rediscovering Brown

I haven't played around with a brown palette ever since overdosing on it with Tim Holtz when he first came onto the scene. Back then, I loved the vintage, distressed look. It didn't take much to entice me to whip out a jar of walnut stain and turn all things paper into varying brown shades.

But rather like Tim himself these days, I've put this style to one side. Been there, done that, stained the T-shirt.

However, I've revisited these autumnal hues for the latest challenge over at Casology; Brown!

I stamped a sentiment onto Kraft card, using black Archival ink. I cut a dark brown stitched rectangle using a Lil Inkers die. Then I took my Dots die from Penny Black and placed it centrally within the dark card.

Then came the tricky bit. I took the dots die again and used it on a reddish brown card. This time, I took the dots and filled them in on the brown cut out.  Believe me, it's one heck of a tricky jigsaw to piece back together. Thankfully most of the dots remained in the die which made placing them easier.

The effect is worth it though.

You know, I thought I'd have more time to craft this month. Having now seen off my Inspired Patterns challenge. But I've done it again!!!! Back in March, I designed some papers for a 30 Day Play Project. And well, it's being run for one last time so I couldn't resist joining in with this wonderful group. Which means that in my spare time, I'm still beavering away. I'm doing something different but still around the world of design. Thankfully it's not a daily challenge but I've only got thirty days to complete it. If I'm feeling confident, I may share what I complete at the end of the month. We'll see.

But I am hopefully going to find time to craft too. I'm missing it!

Hope you are all settling down to some fun projects to while away these autumn days

Thanks for popping by

That sounds very tricky but the effect is really worth it. There's not a lot of brown around these days, but I am very fond of it myself. Glad you are creatively busy!

Oh it was definitely worth it Paul - I love it. But I can only imagine how long it took to get those pesky dots out of the die. Imagine if you'd had a few glasses of wine at the same time...you'd have a completely different look probably lol!

Love this card, Paul - definitely worth the painstaking placement of all the circles! Great colour combination too x

Love your card today, Paul, and it is most definitely worth the time and effort it took to construct it! I a brown fan, and, generally, pop in a sweet color, as you have done here!

Oops - now I've read this more carefully and see it's a die. And strangely enough, I was doing exactly the same thing with a different die this afternoon (I cut two in white, and coloured the dots with copics before trying to piece them into the other one) - I gave up, but I can see that the result is well worth the effort!
